Which Window Replacement is Best for Me?

Replacing your windows can be a substantial investment. You might ask yourself “Which window replacement is best for me?” Several questions need to be answered before the best window replacement for your home can be determined. American Screen & Glass has the estimators to help you.

Here is a list of some of the questions AS&G will help you answer.

  1. What type of existing windows do you have?
    • Are they double-hung, single-hung, slider, or casement?
    • What type of material are your existing windows made from?  Are they wood, vinyl, or metal?
    • What color is your frame?
    • What type of glass do your windows have? Is it clear or Low E?
    • Do your windows have grids?
  2. What are your existing window openings like?
    • Are they unusual? Is there anything that will impact window installation?
    • What are the materials on the exterior of your home?
    • Are there any obstructions in the interior of your home that will be impacted by window replacements? For example, is there a window in a shower surrounded by tile?
  3. What type of replacement windows do you want to have?
    • The same type and material as your existing windows or something different?
    • What features are you looking for? Do you want to get Low E instead of clear to help with cooling costs?  Do you want to get rid of your grids to enhance your view?  Would you like full view screens instead of half-view, so you can open the top of your double-hung window?
  4. How long do you plan to live in your home?
    • Is it a rental property?
    • Are you fixing it up to sell?
  5. Do you have a homeowner’s association or condo association?
    • Are there certain restrictions for window replacements?
    • Do they require approval?

Once you have the answers to these questions, an American Screen & Glass estimator can offer you the best option for which window replacement is best for you.

Other things to keep in mind:

  • Replacement windows are custom.
  • Ask about manufacturing and installation time frames. This will help to set realistic expectations. You may expect to have windows installed tomorrow but you may have to wait for specific parts and schedules to install them.
  • Ask about any requirements the homeowner may have after the windows are installed. For example: Will I need to touch up paint?  If so, will it be interior or exterior and will I need to do it again in the future?

American Screen & Glass offers free estimates for window replacements and repairs, too.  If you live in the Northern Virgina area, including Ashburn, Leesburg, Herndon, Reston, Fairfax, Arlington, or Alexandria we are available most days Monday-Friday.  Just give us a call to schedule!
