Celebrating our 30th anniversary feels more significant than our 25th. Yes, making it 3 decades instead of 2 and a half is an achievement! However, the last five years have been hard. At times it equated to the feeling of climbing a mountain or swimming across an ocean.
It’s a well-known fact that most small businesses fail.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics:
More than 20% of small businesses in the U.S. end up failing within a year. After five years, around 50% fail, and after 10 years, only 30% are still running. Once you pass the 15-year mark in business you still only have a 25% chance of surviving.
According to the World Economic Forum:
99.9% of all businesses in the US qualify as small businesses, collectively employing 47.3 of the nation’s private workforce.
Compared to January of 2020 34% of America’s small businesses are still closed due to COVID-19.
That makes surviving over the last 5 years even more meaningful. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary and look back, I know we didn’t just survive, we thrived. We’re better than ever!
